I have this terrible odor down there that will not go away.

I heard douching helps, but then again, I heard that this is also harmful...

    Suggestions?

Go to the doctor. It is a certain infection and there is a medication for it.

First douching is bad. If you really do have a problem down there, it will make things worst.

Second, how long has this odor been there? Could it just be your natural odor. Women smell different at different times of the month. Are there any other symptoms such as itching or any discharge?

Be sure to wash thoroughly, sometimes washing twice a day is necessary, especially if you are in a warm climate/environment and/or have a strenuous job.

I suppose the term 'smelly' is subjective, it may well not be as bad as you think it is, especially if it is just something you notice at the end of the day for example.

While I hear diet can be a contributing factor to the way men and women can taste and smell 'down there' I would then go to the doctor if doubling up on personal hygiene doesn't make any difference.

If you have any reason to believe that this could be an STD (perhaps you've recently started having sex, or had unprotected sex?) or this problem is something which reared its head recently then best go straight to the doctor.

Don't be embarrassed and remember this is something which is likely to be very simple for a doctor to deal with.
